Medi Belezika – Streetscape Apprentice 2014

Profile to be added shortly.

Richard Cresswell, Streetscape Graduate 2013-14

Hi, I am Richard. I started at Streetscape in March 2013, and graduated in the following year. Before Streetscape I studied carpentry and joinery at level 1 and 2, earning a distinction in both.  When I finished college I was unemployed for a bit, looking for outdoor work where I could use my skills. I finished a course at Spear – this is how I came across Streetscape, where I was given a great opportunity at an apprenticeship, involving my wood working skills and developing my interest in gardening. I was apprenticed to Keith.

Contact info@streetscape.org.uk if you would like to see my CV and visit the ‘Employ an apprentice’ page for further information.

Having completed his apprenticeship with Streetscape, Richard is now in work as a landscaper for Garden Sage.

Alga Lutondo, Streetscape Apprentice 2013

The apprenticeship gave me an opportunity to learn about nature, which is my great passion. For me, Streetscape gave me the opportunity to not only know how to grow plants but also how to maintain them. I enjoyed mostly carpentry and looking after plants, eg. planting and pruning. My hobbies are: long walks in London parks, reading science fiction books, going to the gym and keeping fit.

Having completed three months of his apprenticeship with Streetscape, Alga is now working as an administrator within a London based hotel and regularly talks at Streetscape events.

Troy Lennon, Streetscape Graduate 2012-13

Hi, I’m Troy, one of Streetscape’s graduate apprentices. I started the apprenticeship in September 2012 and was apprenticed to Jay. Before Streetscape, I had been out of work, but had big ambitions to set up my own landscape business with a friend of mine.  This is why I joined Streetscape: to learn the trade, and when I was offered the apprenticeship I grabbed it with both hands. At Streetscape, I particularly enjoyed tree pruning – especially when it involves a chainsaw!

Outside of work I enjoy playing football and like going for long drives to different places on the motorway.

Alan Hay, Streetscape Graduate 2012-13

Before Streetscape I was in and out of jobs, often jobs I didn’t really want. I came to Streetscape in July 2012 to learn and make a career in landscape gardening and was apprenticed to Jay, working in Streetscape’s landscape team. At Streetscape I learnt how to make the best use of my time and always seeked to work to the best of my ability. I particularly enjoyed working as part of a team with fellow apprentice graduate, Troy.

Outside of Streetscape my main interest is BMX racing, and I train all year round to be able to take part in championships.

David Saville, Streetscape Graduate 2012-13

My name is David; I am 24 years old and started an apprenticeship with Streetscape in July 2012. I was apprenticed to Luke, and worked in the garden maintenance team. Before working at Streetscape I was unemployed for two years, during this time I volunteered with the Lea Valley Park Volunteers, British Trust for Conservation Volunteers and at an Oxfam Charity shop. At Streetscape, I had learnt how to carry out many different aspects of landscaping, in particular I enjoyed using the hedge trimmer to remove suckers from trees. I had taken and passed the PA1 and PA6 qualifications, which means I am now able to spray Pesticides & Herbicides.

Outside of work I enjoy doing judo, something I have been doing since I was 6 years old. I also enjoy playing and watching football and reading history books.

Having completed his apprenticeship with Streetscape, David is now working with Garden Link.

Jerone Haywood, Streetscape Graduate 2011-12

I’m Jerone, one of Streetscape’s graduate apprentices. Before Streetscape, I’d never had a job and was really struggling to find one. To give my CV a boost, I did some voluntary work with Streetscape during their pilot project in October 2010 and was then offered an apprenticeship. I was no longer spending my time looking for work, and was enjoying myself working for Streetscape’s clients. I learnt new things every day. Streetscape taught me that I wanted my career to be in landscape gardening.

Having completed his apprenticeship with Streetscape, Jerone is now in work with Pinnacle PSG.

Jordan Howell, Streetscape Graduate 2011-12

I’m Jordan, 20 years old and from West Kensington. Before joining Streetscape I had never had a full-time job. I’d been out of work for over a year after studying Music Technology at college. When I applied for the apprenticeship, honestly, I didn’t think I’d get it as I had no experience in landscaping and had been rejected in so many job applications before. But I did, and was very happy! At Streetscape, I had learnt a huge number of things. My favourite part was the hard landscaping and clipping. I particularly enjoyed the hard work and the shapes we created in the gardens we work in.

Contact info@streetscape.org.uk if you would like to see my CV and visit the ‘Employ an apprentice’ page for further information.

Having completed his apprenticeship with Streetscape, Jordan is now in work with MEARS.
