My name is Jack Bennett and I joined Streetscape in February 2016. Before Streetscape, I already had a Level 1 qualification in Garden and Park Maintenance and I saw that Streetscape offer a Level 2 in Horticulture and Landscaping so this really appealed to me because I knew that if I could develop my Hard Landscape skills, this would change my game in the gardening world. Since I’ve joined, I’ve worked on some amazing projects, for example Hampton Court and the Chelsea Flower Show. The apprenticeship has really helped me personally too – I feel that I can now communicate with others better, including colleagues, clients and general public. After my apprenticeship, I would like to join the team as either a Team Leader, or move elsewhere to go into a Garden Design and Architecture role. The best thing about this field is that you can move into so many different fields. The team and other apprentices here are great – they are really nice and welcoming and I would recommend the apprenticeship to other young people interested in a career in Landscaping or Horticulture.
Hello my name is Ylyn and I heard about Streetscape through my local job centre. They advertise a lot of desk jobs so this one stood out for me as I love working outdoors. Since I was young, my mum and dad were always out gardening so I helped out on the flower beds a lot. It’s always been an interest of mine and I really like want to develop my skills in Soft Landscaping. This apprenticeship will really help me to get myself into a routine, and allow me to work outdoors.
Hello, I am Theore. I joined Streetscape in March 2017. I wanted this apprenticeship because what it offered resonated well with my past experience and passions. Growing up, I was always in the family garden, and I did a lot of volunteering on farms in my gap year as a way of exploring England. I applied also because I love working outdoors and what’s better than getting paid to do what you love! I also know being able to obtain the Level 2 qualification, alongside all else that Streetscape offer, will be really helpful for my future.
Hi I’m Brent and I started Streetscape in July 2015. For me landscaping and gardening has always been a dream; it’s something I’ve wanted to do since I was young. I’ve tried so many different ways of getting into the trade but none have ever really paid off. I received my NVQ Level 1 in 2010 but then I hit a dead end. Then I found Streetscape and was over the moon. Since being accepted on to the apprenticeship, I have felt nothing but accepted by the team. They’ve helped build my confidence and my skills and I’m more then grateful to have been given the chance to show what I’m made of.
Hi, my name is Paul and I am Streetscape’s Head of Training & Development. I joined Streetscape in April 2017 and wanted to be a part of the team because I think it’s a great opportunity for me to help young people from long-term unemployment into long-term employment. Previous to Streetscape, I spent 15 years working with young people in professional and voluntary environments – specifically in helping young people into work via building their employability skills. I am looking forward to being a part of Streetscape”s journey as it looks to grow and impact more lives over the next few years.
Hello, my name is Alex Stevenson. I joined Streetscape in August 2016 as the Estimator and Designer of the Charity, and have since moved roles and am now the Head of Trade. I have over 27 years of experience within the landscaping industry, working both commercially and domestically. I started as a labourer and in my career, have run multi-million pound projects. I have a BA with Honours in Garden Design from Greenwich University, and a higher BTEC Diploma in Landscape Amenity Studies. I joined Streetscape because I saw it as an opportunity to give something back to the younger generation within a field that I have very passionate about.
Hello I’m Cam, Streetscape Head of Charity. I joined Streetscape in January 2014 as Project Support Officer and have steadily progressed within the organisation since. I joined Streetscape primarily because I strongly believe in its ethos and passion in making a real difference to young people’s lives and the community. My background is in Sociology, having graduated with a degree in BSc Sociology at the London School of Economics. Since my graduation in 2012, I have volunteered and worked for several Charities. I am delighted to be a part of such a committed and passionate team and look forward to growing alongside the organisation.

I’ve been a keen gardener pretty much all my life. Post-university, I spent four years working at one of Europe’s most prestigious plant nurseries, Architectural Plants. It became clear to me there was a real lack of new and enthusiastic talent entering the horticulture industry; and a real opportunity for young people, eager to learn a trade, to gain employment. As a trustee I work on a consultancy basis for Streetscape and am passionate about sharing my love for gardening with our apprentices, and getting in the business and funding that makes Streetscape tick. Guy returned back to Architectural Plants in 2015 as their Commercial Director, focused on growing the Sussex based nursery and Planting team. Guy has also been a BALI South Thames Regional Committee member since February 2014.
Also a bit of a fan of extreme sporting challenges, on 31st July 2009 I broke two world records as part of the first and fastest pair to row unassisted land to land across the Indian Ocean in 102 days, 13 hours and 40 minutes. Read the account here.

My background is in research. After graduating from Oxford University, I was director of the think tank Civitas’ health research unit for five years before setting up Streetscape with Guy, a lifelong friend of mine. It’s been an amazing journey; sometimes I have to pinch myself that we’re here, with our second and third teams of apprentices, in little over a year. Now, I am privileged to be Streetscape Chief Executive, focused on our expansion and making sure our apprenticeships are top-notch and that our systems run smoothly so you get that seamless service. Importantly, I also run Streetscape’s programme of personal development for our apprentices.
